HOUSE prices in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area have risen by 1.3 per cent in the second quarter of 2021.

The House Price Index figures have been released by the NI Statistics and Research Agency based information provided by the Land and Property Services.

It means that the average price of a house in the Derry and Strabane council are now stands at £135,176.

Over the past 12 months house prices have risen 6 per cent within the council boundary, the lowest of all 11 councils in the North of Ireland.

Between March to June 2022 prices in the North of Ireland were 9% higher than the same time last year, according to official figures.

It is the biggest annual rise since 2007 and the biggest quarterly increase since 2016.

The housing market was effectively paused between March and June 2020 because of lockdown, which caused a build up of demand.

But after lockdown restrictions were eased, there was a scramble by buyers to complete before the stamp duty holiday started ended on June 30 this year.

The average price for a house in the North of Ireland is £153,449.

It ranges from £134,091 in Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon to £180,067 in Lisburn and Castlereagh.

Causeway Coast and Glens was the area which saw the biggest annual rise in prices, up almost 17%, to £171,442.

Between March and June this year, 7,187 residential properties were sold, according to Nisra.
