Candystripes in away trip to lowly Longford Town

Derry City manager Ruaidhri Higgins

DERRY City are back on the road again this Saturday, July 31, as they travel to the Midlands for a Premier Division clash with Longford Town (kick off 7.30 pm).

The hosts may be eight points adrift of safety at the minute with only one win under their belt, but the Candystripes have taken just one point from their two games with Daire Doyle’s men this season, including an opening night defeat at Bishopsgate.

Things have certainly turned around for the visitors since the arrival of Ruaidhri Higgins but the Derry boss insists he’s expecting a really tough game.

“They’re definitely improving that’s for sure” said Higgins.

“Their last three games has seen them draw with Drogheda and Bohs as well as an emphatic win in the cup.

“They’ve also added Williams and Nugent on loan from Rovers in recent weeks, so I’m expecting a difficult night.

“As always our mindset will be to go out and try to win the match.

“We have to be positive and get on the front foot and that’s what we’ll look to do.

“I’m very happy with the business we’ve done in this window and all three players we’ve brought in- Jamie McGonigle, Junior and Bastien Hery are in the squad for Saturday.”

In terms of his team news it is one in and one out for Higgins as Ciaron Harkin is suspended but Jack Malone is back after his one match ban at Drogheda last week.

Marc Walsh remains sidelined with a hamstring injury.

It was confirmed yesterday that there will be no visiting supporters in attendance, however the match will again be streamed live on LOITV.
