Man charged to court over Derry drink drive incident

POLICE have praised the public’s help in stopping a dangerous drink driver fleeing the scene of a collision in Derry.

As a result of their work, a male was arrested and subsequently charged to court.

Police Derry City and Strabane say: “Last night members of the public witnessed a road traffic collision in the Waterside area which was believed to have been the result of a drink driver.

“The male driver attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by these residents.

“Waterside Neighbourhood Policing Team attended along with the tactical support group and local policing team and the male was subsequently arrested for a number of offences.

We would like to thank all those involved who helped police at this incident.

“As a result this male has now been charged to court.

“This is a great example of team work between the local community and a number of different policing teams.

“Thank you.”
