Man remanded over stab murder of Katie Brankin

Murder victim Kathleen ‘Katie’ Brankin

A 53-year-old man has faced a court today charged with the stab murder of mother-of-one Kathleen ‘Katie’ Brankin.

Thomas Davidson, of Collinward Avenue, Newtownabbey, appeared at Ballymena Magistrates Court via video link from Coleraine custody suite this morning charged in relation to the stabbing incident on July 12 at Swanns Bridge camp site on the Seacoast Road in Limavady.

Davidson spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth and that he understood the charge.

A detective inspector from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team said she could connect the accused to the charge.

A defence solicitor said he had no questions to ask the investigating detective.

There was no applicaton for bail and Davidson was remanded in custody to Maghaberry prison.

He will to appear again at Limavady Magistrates’ court on Wednesday, August 11.

Ms Brankin was a single mother of a young child who was originally from south Belfast but had been lately living in Newtownabbey, Co Antrim.

Both her parents predecese her and she was an only child.

Ms Brankin’s body was found on decking at the outdoor holiday accommodation and Davidson was located by police nearby.
