DERRY City and Strabane District Council says it has been forced to close one of its playparks due wanton vandlism.

In a statement, the council say: “The playpark at Ballyarnett will remain closed today due to damage caused to play equipment overnight.

“This is a popular play area for local children and we would appeal to everyone to please respect this facility – it’s there for everyone to enjoy.

“Remember vandalism is an offence that affects the entire community!

“The park will reopen as soon as possible.”

Aontu Councillor Emmet Doyle said he has “spoken to officers and hoping to get the tyre swings repaired ASAP”.
