McLaughlin welcomes clarity on vaccine eligibility

THE SDLP’s Sinéad McLaughlin has welcomed clarification from the Minister of Health Robin Swann that means those unable to book their COVID-19 vaccination slot online will be redirected to an alternative method.

Said the Foyle MLA: “I was concerned when several constituents got in touch to say they had been having difficulties in accessing the vaccination programme as they were not registered with a GP in Northern Ireland and did not have a record of their Health and Care number or had never been assigned one.

“I subsequently tabled a written question to the Minister of Health to gain clarity on how they could book a vaccination appointment.

“I am pleased that the minister has updated the online system so that such individuals are now directed through to his Department where officials check their eligibility and then arrange an appointment.”

“The confusion has come about as someone can be eligible for a COVID-19 vaccination yet be ineligible to use the online booking system to secure the necessary appointment.

“I have therefore tabled a follow-up question today asking whether the Minister of Health will make this information more easily accessible to the public by adding an additional FAQ to the Get Vaccinated website.”

Ms McLaughlin added: “I would encourage everyone eligible, those aged 18 and over on 31 July 2021, to book their vaccination slot.

“Anyone having difficulties booking should contact the dedicated email line: [email protected].”
