DUP Foyle MLA Gary Middleton speaking at Economy Committee today on High Street Voucher Scheme

DUP Foyle MLA Gary Middleton has welcomed progress on the High Street Voucher Scheme

Mr Middleton said: “It is welcome news that further progress has been made in developing the High Street Voucher Scheme.

“This morning at the Economy Committee I received a further update from officials in the Department.

“Every person over the age of 18 in Northern Ireland will be eligible for a £100 prepaid card.

“There will be a short registration process which will be done via an online portal.

“However, I also welcome that accommodation will be made for those unable to access online services.

“Last week the Minister for the Economy Diane Dodds MLA and I met with local businesses and the Londonderry Chamber of Commerce to hear first hand their concerns and ideas as our economy begins to reopen.

“These engagements across the North West have shown that the high street voucher scheme is very welcome for businesses who have been impacted throughout the COVID19 pandemic.

“It is anticipated that the voucher scheme will be open in August of this year.

“This will be a timely boost for our local economy and our communities.”
