One further death, 97 new cases in North

THE Department of Health has reported a further 97 cases in the North of Ireland in the last 24 hours.

That’s a fall of 15 on figures given yesterday for Monday.

There has been one further death from the deadly virus with the death toll, mostly in hospitals across the North, now at 2,130.

In the past week, the Department has recorded 780 new cases of Coronavirus.

There has been a further 25 positive cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area in the past 24 hours, a rise of one on the previous day.

But this is almost a quarter of all reported new cases in last 24 hours.

Within the past week there have been a further 153 COVID-19 cases in the Derry and Strabane area – the highest number of new cases in any of the 11 council’s here.

That means that since the pandemic started in March there have now been 11,915 positive cases within the council boundary – the fourth highest among all 11 councils in the North.

The rate of infection within the Derry and Strabane council area is now up to 101.5 cases per 100,000, the highest in the North of Ireland.

The Department has recorded a total of 135 coronavirus deaths within the Derry and Strabane council area to date – the third lowest out of all councils here.

Bed occupancy across all hospitals is now up to 102 cent.

There are currently 70 patients in hospital with Coronavirus, eight of whom are being treated in intensive care with five patients on ventilators.

A total of four care homes are now dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak with a further 646 concluded Coronavirus outbreaks in care homes.
