Ten more deaths, 303 news cases in North

THE Department of Health has announced a further 303 more cases in the North of Ireland in the last 24 hours.

That’s a fall of 104 cases on the previous day.

There have been a further ten deaths (two outside the current reporting period) from the deadly virus bringing the death toll, mostly in hospitals across the North, to 1,985.

Sadly, two of these latest deaths have been recorded in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.

In the past week, the Department has recorded 2,272 new cases of Coronavirus.

There has been a further 11 positive cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council in the past 24 hours, a fall of 25 on figures reported for Thursday.

Within the past week there have been a further 131 COVID-19 cases in the Derry and Strabane area.

That means that since the pandemic started in March there have now been 10,935 positive cases within the council boundary.

The Department has now recorded a total of 129 coronavirus deaths within the Derry and Strabane council area to date – the third lowest out of all 11 councils in the North of Ireland.

Bed occupancy across all hospitals is now down to 92 per cent.

There are currently 470 patients in hospital with Coronavirus, with 55 patients currently in intensive care and 52 patients who are on ventilators.

A total of 78 care homes are dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak with a further 555 concluded Coronavirus outbreaks in care homes.
