Get a helping hand on the career ladder

written by cassoscoop February 11, 2021

RESIDENTS of the Derry City and Strabane District Council area are being offered specialised support to find employment or restart their career through training and work experience opportunities.

Five local organisations have been funded by Council to provide people with an opportunity to up-skill, retrain and get back to work through the European Social Fund.

The successful programme has been running for three years and offers a range of support including access to free qualifications, assistance with CVs, job applications, volunteering and interviews.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Brian Tierney, said the programme was an ideal opportunity for people to overcome some of the barriers that have been preventing them from achieving their potential.

“Getting your career off the ground is one of the most challenging periods of anyone’s life and quite often people’s ambitions are on hold due to a lack of qualifications or experience,” he said.

“These five organisations who have been funded to deliver the project offer free, confidential one to one help and support across a wide range of sectors and welcome people to contact them with whatever job seeking questions or needs they may have.

“The impact of Covid 19 has reduced the opportunities for people to work in a number of industries including hospitality, retail and the arts so I welcome this extra support for them to reconsider their future career in sectors where there are new employment opportunities.”

The partner organisations involved in the project are Job Directions, USEL, Conservation Volunteer, Women’s Centre and Skills North West.
