SINN Féin’s Martina Anderson plans to convene a cross-party meeting with the Communities Minister to discuss the challenges facing the arts sector here.
She was commenting after attending a cross party meeting with local arts and cultural organisations.
Said the Foyle MLA: “MLAs and Councillors from across the political spectrum in Derry met with local arts and cultural organisations to discuss the immediate challenges and difficulties they face as a result of the Covid19 pandemic and the deeper structural problems within the sector which impact on sustainability and development.
“It was agreed that we would seek a meeting with the Communities Minister Deirdre Hargey to discuss the status of arts funding to organisations in Derry and how the wider structural issues can be addressed.
“I have asked the minister to hold that meeting as soon as possible.
“Deirdre Hargey has already shown herself to be a forward-thinking minister who will do whatever she can to assist communities and organisations who are making a positive impact.
“I look forward to what will hopefully be a very positive engagement.”
