A MOTHER who lost her family in a lake tragedy in Co Donegal has told people to “hug and kiss your loved ones and tell them how much they mean to you” as Christmas approaches.

Geraldine Mullan was the only member of her family to survive when their car plunged into Lough Foyle at Quigley’s Point on August 20.

The family had been returning from a night out in Derry when the accident happened.

And while Geraldine was rescued, her husband, John (49) and two children, Tomás (14) and Amelia (6) tragically died.

Now, three months on, the Moville mother has spoken about how the support she has received as helped her in the aftermath of the tragedy.

Mrs Mullan said since she lost her loved ones she has been “surrounded by many wonderful people and wrapped up in their familial and communal embraces, all united in offering me solace, comfort, assistance and no end of love, understanding and compassion.

“I stand each day and get through it, in no small part, due to the continuous support you provide to me,” she said.

Mrs Mullan thanked all those who helped her both on the night of the accident and afterwards as well as those who donated to Laura Lynn, Ireland’s Children’s Hospice in memory of her family, raising €5,000.

She said: “In the three months that have passed, not a minute goes by where I don’t think of my darling John and my adorable children Tomás and Amelia, and how lost, broken-hearted and sad I am

“As I have learned in the cruellest of fashions, it is vitally important to cherish every moment…

“Please hug and kiss your loved ones and tell them how much they mean to you.

“I was so lucky to have been loved by John, Tomás and Amelia.

“I tell them I love them each and every day and I always will.

“I will cherish the wonderful memories we created and I will try to live every day for my beloved family.”
