Campsie remedial works for areas impacted by flooding

THE SDLP’s Mark H Durkan has welcomed the prompt response from DfI Rivers following his request for essential remedial works in the lower Campsie and Donnybrewer areas.

Said the Foyle: “This is a welcome response from DfI Rivers to my request for much needed remedial works in the lower Campsie and Donnybrewer areas of the city.

“I understand that work has commenced this week which will no doubt be a relief for local farmers.

“This area suffered flooding over the past few years which has had a negative impact on crop production.

“February 2020 marked the highest monthly rainfall on record and subsequent heavy rainfall in August has only served to exacerbate existing problems.

“I must commend DfI Rivers for their prompt action on this issue and understand that maintenance works to repair flood defences on the River Roe will be completed over the Winter period.

“Department officials have already met with a number of farmers in the Myroe area and will continue engagement to discuss their concerns, taking action where possible.”
