Action needed on Ballynagalliagh road safety concerns

Sinn Fein Foyle MLA Martina Anderson

SINN Féin’s Martina Anderson has urged Apex Housing to address the safety concerns of residents in Ballynagalliagh Close by installing gated fencing.

Commenting after raising the concerns of residents with Apex, the Foyle MLA said: “Without any gated fencing, many residents find it almost impossible to safely ferry their young children back and forth from their cars, while other vehicles enter the estate.

“Some vehicles also reverse into small front gardens due to limited turning space.

“Despite these obvious safety concerns, Apex have only committed to installing an ungated fence while consideration will be given to raising the footpath table.

“However, this will not resolve the safety concerns of residents so I am calling on Apex to rethink and install the gated fence as requested.

“Apex manage and are responsible for these properties, and therefore have a responsibility to their tenants and their children, especially when there are fundamental safety concerns.

“This is a simple problem with a very simple solution.

“Apex just need to implement it.”
