Community consultation on ‘The Cashel’ major building plans

Sinn Fein Foyle MLA Karen Mullan

SINN Féin’s Karen Mullan has urged participation in a community consultation following the announcement last month by the Braidwater Group of its intention to build a 250-acre development, in an area known as The Cashel, near Coshquin.

The Foyle MLA said “In October the Braidwater Group announced its intention to build a 250-acre development, in an area known as The Cashel, near Coshquin.

“There is now a community consultation underway to get the views of the people of the city and to try and shape what they would like to see on this vast site.

“And ensure we get this right from the outset.

“There is also an onus on developers to ensure that new developments are beneficial to the local community so I again welcome Braidwater’s plans to include new community buildings, schools, retail and convenience facilities in the development.

“Trees are also to be planted as part of a bio-diversity drive to make the project carbon neutral.

“This will be the largest development of its kind anywhere in the North for ten years.

“It represents a multi-million investment which will provide a huge boost to the building sector and local economy.

“I would urge people to make their views known as part of that process in the coming period.”
