Durkan welcomes clarity on staff parking at Altnagelvin

Altnagelvin Hospital

Health Minister Robin Swann announced earlier this week free parking for all health staff across the North.

However, a number of penalty charges were subsequently issued to staff within Altnagelvin hospital.

Mark H Durkan has welcomed clarity from officials at the Western Trust who say that any charges issued in error can be appealed and rescinded where appropriate.

The Foyle MLA said: “Last week, Minister Swann announced an allocation of funding to allow free parking for all HSC staff until next year.

“A welcome move and the very least that could be done for our heroic health staff.

“However, this week I was contacted by a number of health staff who were issued with penalty notices while parking within the grounds of Altnagelvin Hospital.

“Having spoken with the Western Trust, I am glad their officials have now clarified the situation, confirming that parking will be free for staff excluding the parking at the Emergency Department and Pay and Display in the South wing as they are required for family of patients who need to be close-by.

“Furthermore, any member of staff who has received a parking charge in error this week can appeal to have it rescinded.”
