Durkan condemns ‘disgraceful’ damage of new Strathfoyle homes

THE SDLP’s Mark H Durkan has condemned those behind damage inflicted over the weekend at a new social housing building site in the Strathfoyle area of the city.

The Foyle MLA said: “Those behind the wanton destruction caused to the new social housing builds this weekend, should be utterly ashamed of themselves.

“I attended the site on Sunday night and met with the PSNI to assess the damage.

“Myself and other community activists, have since liaised with the construction company in charge of the site.

“CCTV will now be installed, and the situation will be closely monitored going forward.

“These vandals must be held accountable for their actions on homes which so many families in housing need within their own community, have waited years for.

“This vandalism only serves to delay some of the most vulnerable individuals and their families from being suitably housed.

“I have campaigned for many years to get much needed social housing directed towards this area of Strathfoyle.

“The community here will not stand for trouble or tolerate the anti-social behaviour caused by a minority of buffoons.

“I would appeal to anyone with any information on this senseless destruction to come forward.”
