Bin lorry under attack in Derry!!

THE countdown is on to the city’s favourite celebration – albeit with a terrorific twist – as we look forward to a very different virtual Derry Halloween this weekend.

And you can still grab yourself a free front row VIP slot for a packed programme of music, entertainment, ghastly ghost stories, and creepy arts and crafts running from October 28-31, with plenty to enjoy for all ages.

Be the first to view as the events premiere online by signing up for a special free VIP pass and become part of the celebrations that have made Derry the home of Halloween.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District, Councillor Brian Tierney, said he would be setting up his online account today and encouraged everyone to do the same.

“This is a great opportunity to feel like we’re all still part of the celebrations this year,” he said.

“The Festival and Events team have put so much work into creating an exciting and alternative online programme with thrills and scares aplenty.

“By signing up for a VIP slot you can be part of the buzz and have access to the events as they go live on the Halloween site.

“You can get creative with some of our local artists and makers with a series of online tutorials, view some frightful Halloween films courtesy of Ulster University’s Cinematic students, find out more about our frightening folklore with some spooky storytelling and be the first to tune in to our Samhain Sessions showcase featuring some of the very best musical talent including Roe, Roisin O and Reevah.

“We wanted to capture the true spirt of Halloween and keep the celebrations alive but in a safe and responsible way.

“All the family can get involved and all from the comfort of your own living room!”

Events go online today evening with some gothic Ghost Stories from Magee, Ghost Hunting in the Guildhall with NK Hauntings, Little Horrors Story-telling and local Indie-pop sensation Roe who takes to the Samhain Sessions stage.

Events continue daily with more music from Roisin O, John Broe, Conor Scott, Cora Harkin, Reevah, Tebi Rex and pupils from Foyle College and St Cecelia’s.

Find out more about the lost souls who walk our streets with the Awakened Spirits of the Walls podcasts, and meet some of our most famous and frightful characters including Irish witch the Cailleach and the shapeshifting goddess Morrigan.

Just a small selection of the highlights!

And if you’re out and about over the coming days keep an eye out for some strange and unusual sites at locations around the city including Ebrington Square, Austins, Foyleside, Quayside and the Tower of Terror Museum.
