Sinn Fein Foyle MLA Karen Mullan

SINN Féin Education spokesperson Karen Mullan MLA has welcomed a meeting this week between youth workers in Derry and the Education Minister Peter Weir.

Karen Mullan said “I was glad that Minister Peter Weir took up my invitation for this meeting.

“It was very important that this meeting which involved over 30 local youth workers took place.

“It gave the youth workers an opportunity to relay to Minister Weir the issues they have facing on the ground and the help they need to be able to carry out their work and the issues young people are facing.

“I have been working with many of them over recent months and they have been at the cold face in helping our young people deal with all the issues around COVID19.

“This work has been made even more difficult as most of this has had to be done at a distance and over social media platforms.

“I hope that the Minister and his department take away from the meeting those concerns, the solutions and idea’s and take forward over the coming period.

“I would like to thank all those youth workers for taking part in what was a very informative meeting and pay tribute to the ongoing work they carry out in our community.”
