Durkan welcomes lighting of Council buildings for NICU Awareness Day

Council buildings to be lit up green Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Day this month

THE SDLP’s Mark H Durkan has welcomed Derry City and Strabane District Council’s approval to light council buildings green on Wednesday 30th September, for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Awareness day.

Said the Foyle MLA: “I am pleased Council have agreed to my request to light their buildings green on Wednesday, September 30 to mark Neonatal Intensive Care Unit awareness month.

“This small gesture is a show of support for all of the families with babies in the neonatal unit and in honour of all the medical professionals who care for them, offering them hope through such a challenging time.

“NICU’s across the North provide invaluable work on a daily a basis.

“Caring for premature babies, creating an environment of safety and providing support and reassurance to parents.

“It is important recognition is given to their work and a reminder given to families that they are not alone,” added Mr Durkan.
