Sinn Fein Foyle MLA Karen Mullan

MORE must be done to increase the rate of social housing construction in Derry city, Sinn Féin’s Karen Mullan has said.

The Foyle MLA was commenting prior to meeting with the Housing Executive today, Friday September 18.

Said Karen Mullan: “In 2019, there were 4,510 people on the housing waiting list in Derry.

“This city has one of the highest rates of homelessness in the North, and the way to tackle this housing stress is by approving, funding and constructing more social housing.

“Tackling housing stress and housing need across the city will therefore be central to our discussions with the Housing Executive and I am keen to hear of their plans for new build schemes in the city.

“Of course, residents also have many issues with existing housing stock, particularly in terms of improvement works.

“I will be seeking updates on a range of matters so that residents can be kept fully informed.”
