The Playhouse in Derry still can’t open to the public
The move comes just weeks after the re-closure of theatres here and following calls from Mr Durkan for continued and increased support for the Arts Sector.
Said the Foyle MLA: “I am pleased that the Department has heeded my calls and indeed those from the sector to provide critical additional funding that will ensure creatives and organisations alike can plan for recovery during the continued closure of venues here.
“The Organisations Emergency Programme aims to provide financial support for small to medium sized arts and creative organisations.
“This will assist the sector with operational costs, allow creatives to continue producing their works and adequately plan for recovery.
“I hope this funding will help to alleviate pressures felt by the arts sector- a sector whose vital work has contributed greatly to people’s mental wellbeing during this challenging period.
“We must ensure these organisations and individuals are supported and the industry sustained.
“I would encourage all creative organisations, from every creative sector, to apply for this assistance.”
