Logue appeals for abuse of shop workers to stop

Sinn Fein councillor Patricia Logue

SINN Féin Councillor Patricia Logue has appealed for the abuse of workers in the retail and hospitality sectors trying to implement COVID-19 safety measures to stop.

Councillor Logue said: “It is very worrying to hear reports from Unions who represent workers in the retail and hospitality sectors that they are now becoming targets for both physical and verbal abuse as they are trying to implement COVID-19 safety measures.

“The whole situation around COVID-19 is very stressful for everyone, no more so than for these workers.

“They are trying to keep businesses open and provide in many cases a vital service in communities.

“And the last thing we want to see is them being subject to this type of abuse just for asking someone to stay a few metres apart in a queue or wear a facemask.

“We need to support these workers in trying to keep everyone safe and playing a part in fighting this terrible virus.”
