Skeoge to get much needed pedestrian crossing – Duffy

SINN Féin Councillor Sandra Duffy has welcomed written confirmation from the Department for Infrastructure she has received this week that there will be a pedestrian crossing put on the Skeoge Road within this financial year subject to funding.

It follows a long campaign for these measures to be put in place

Said Cllr Duffy: “I have been lobbying the Department for Infrastructure, Roads Service and the PSNI on behalf of local residents for some time now regarding the safety of the Skeoge Road.

“This road is a dual carriageway running through two new housing developments with hundreds of houses and young families.

“The road needs to be crossed by children going to school and accessing local shops.

“There have already been a number of accidents on this road, and there is a high level of concern at the dangers presented by the lack of road safety measures.

“I have held two on site meetings with the Roads Service in the past year to discuss road safety measures on the back of these meetings and on the back of this they carried out the traffic survey.

“The Department for Infrastructure has now confirmed to me in writing that a controlled crossing is proposed for the Skeoge Road.

“The development of this scheme is progressing, and the department hopes to have this completed in this financial year subject to funding.

“I would like to thank the Department for their work on this issue.

“It’s also very important that I thank everyone who has campaigned for road safety measures on this very busy road to get it to this stage,” she added.
