Leisure centre at Foyle Arena reopens today

FOUR of Derry City and Straband District Council’s main leisure centres at Foyle Arena, Templemore Sports Complex, Riversdale Leisure Centre and Derg Valley Leisure Centre will reopen from today, Friday, August 7.

They will be reopened subject to Government regulations, and for gym and classes only, as part of Council’s phased reopening of leisure centres.

Over 50 classes will be available at Foyle Arena, Templemore Sports Complex, Derg Valley and Riversdale Leisure Centres, while online classes will continue to promote health and wellbeing on Council’s YouTube channel.

Other Council fitness programmes will resume later in the month, including the popular Everybody Active Programme.

Access will be for existing members only with new members and casual bookings welcome once again from September, date to be confirmed.

Please note that a booking system is in place from today Friday 31 July via the website at www.derrystrabane.com/leisure

There will be limited capacity and bookings must be made in advance.

There will be staggered start and end times and all sessions will last for less than 60 minutes.

Users must arrive ‘gym ready’ as shower and changing room facilities will be closed.

Vending machines will be operational but on-site cafes remain closed and drinking water stations will be placed out of use so users are advised to bring their own drinking water.

Users will be required to sanitise on arrival and departure and to adhere to strict social distancing measures.
For more information on membership and services go to http://derrystrabaneleisure.com/faq/

Swimming – Plans are in place to possibly reopen swimming facilities at the end of August.

This is under regular review and subject to Government and Health regulations.

Other leisure centres – Tier two leisure centre facilities at Brooke Park, City Baths, Melvin and Bishop’s Field will remain closed as effective social distancing is problematic at these sites. They will remain closed under regular review.

Regular updates will be available on the website at www.derrystrabane.com/leisure

Membership queries – Anyone who has any queries regarding their leisure membership should contact – [email protected].
