SDLP Foyle MLA and Economy spokesperson Sinead McLaughlin

SDLP Economy Spokesperson Sinead McLaughlin has called on the DUP’s Minister Diane Dodds and Sinn Féin Minister Conor Murphy to deliver long awaited support for the taxi industry.

This call comes after the Executive agreed the two Ministers would bring a paper back to deliver support for businesses who missed out on support from their current packages.

Said the Foyle MLA: “Long awaited support for our taxi industry must be provided.

“They play a key role in supporting the hospitality and retail sector and they cannot be left behind while other businesses in the sector are supported.

“Financial support and rates breaks have already been provided by the Economy and Finance Minister for other businesses.

“Sw they need to step up for taxi drivers.

“It is good news that Minister Dodds brought a costed options paper that included support for taxi drivers to the Executive.

Taxi drivers held protest at Stormont last month over a lack of financial support from Executive

“The Executive has agreed that both the Economy and Finance Ministers should return with a paper to include recommendations for support but this needs to happen urgently.

“The SDLP is fully supportive of assisting all those who have fallen through the cracks and will get behind the Economy and Finance Ministers to ensure that delivery happens during this challenging and difficult time.”
