THE Department of Health has recorded no Coroanvirus-related deaths in the North of Ireland in the past 24 hours.

It means the department’s total remains at 556.

Its daily figures are mostly comprised of hospital deaths, where a patient had previously tested positive for the virus.

The latest figures on the department’s dashboard show the total number of confirmed positive cases now stands at 5,921, an increase of nine new cases from yesterday.

Two patients with COVID-19 are currently being treated in intensive care in a hospital here.

There have been 29 deaths from Coronavirus in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area since March.

Earlier, NISra reported that excess deaths within the council boundary because of COVID-19 have been up by 8.1 per cent.

Excess deaths across the North of Ireland from the deadly virus have been up by almost 20 per cent.

Health chiefs continue to urge the public to maintain a social distance of two metres as much as possible and wash hands regularly to prevent the spread of the virus.
