SDLP Foyle MLA Mark H Durkan

THE SDLP’s Mark H Durkan has welcomed an announcement from the Minister for Infrastructure Nichola Mallon, that theory tests due to expire during lockdown will be extended.

Said the Foyle MLA: “I am pleased that Minister Mallon has agreed to the short-term measure of extending the expiry dates for theory tests.

“This move will allow those who currently hold a valid theory test which was due to expire between the 1st of March and 31st October 2020, to be extended by eight months.

“And the validity of off-road motorcycle test pass certificates which expire between 1 March 2020 and 31 August 2020 will be extended by six months.

“This means individuals who have rightfully passed their driving theory test will now be given ample opportunity and time, to attempt their practical driving test now that pandemic restrictions have eased.

“Minister Mallon has also assured that a date for the return of practical tests for cars will be brought forward soon.

“This in line with other pragmatic measures implemented by the Department will ensure minimal disruption for learner drivers as we emerge from this crisis.”
