THE Department of Health has reported that there have been no new reported Coronavirus-related deaths in the North of Ireland.

The figures, which mostly record fatalities in a hospital setting, show there have been a total of 541 deaths during the pandemic.

The new figures show no deaths both in the previous 24 hours, and deaths which have happened in earlier reporting periods but not yet recorded.

There have been 27 recorded deaths from COVID-19 in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area since the pandemic erupted in March.

Statistics show that there have been over 170 positive cases reported within the council boundary since March.

Nisra reported last Friday that up to June 5 there had been 757 deaths from Coronavirus in the North of Ireland across hospitals, care homes, hospices and private addresses.

More than half of those deaths took place in care homes.

The majority of those who died were over 65 with only person under 40 losing their life to COVID-19.
