‘Essential workers must never be left behind again’ – Mullan

Sinn Fein Foyle MLA Karen Mullan

SINN Féin’s Karen Mullan has called on the Economy Minister to begin planning for a ‘just recovery’ on the other side of the current health pandemic.

Speaking in the Assembly chamber, the Foyle MLA said: “In planning for an economic recovery, we need to prevent any return to an economy of old that failed so many and was environmentally unsustainable.

“Over recent weeks and months, we have seen the best from workers – home care workers, delivery drivers, shelf stackers, or any of the other multitude of workers.

“They have stepped up to guide and support us through very difficult times.

“Our essential workers must never be left behind again.

“They deserve to be treated with dignity and respect through a living wage and properly protected working conditions.

“I am calling on the Minister for the Economy to immediately begin the process of planning for a just recovery from both the current health crisis and for the economic challenges that we will inevitably face at the other side of this pandemic.”
