Coronavirus: North still ‘some way off’ reopening barbers and hairdressers

Bareknuckle Barbers in Derry is among the businesses in the city still in lockdown since March with no sign of their premises reopening soon

THERE has been bad news for anyone hoping to put home hairdressing experiments into the rear view mirror.

Health Minister Robin Swann has told the daily Coronavirus briefing this afternoon: “We are still some way off going to the barbers or hairdressers.”

The absence of haircuts has been a major theme during lockdown.

On Sunday, First Minister Arlene Foster said one of things she missed was getting her hair cut.

Some hairdressers offering virtual appointments, and newspaper reports of some businesses here continuing to operate illicitly.

There is currently no guidance in the Stormont Executive’s Pathway to Recovery published earlier this month as to when they will be able to open again.

It is likely to be either in the latter end of stage four if not the final and fifth stage.
