Coronavirus: Seven more people in North lose their lives to COVID-19 as toll hits 501

THE total number of deaths of people diagnosed with Coronavirus in the North of Ireland recorded by the Department of Health has passed 500.

Daily figures from the department record a further seven deaths, three from within the current reporting period and four from outside of it.

It brings the total number of deaths to 501.

The toll rises when you count death certificates that mention COVID-19 and statistics agency Nisra recorded 599 by Friday, May 8.

Nisra will report tomorrow on all deaths from Coronavirus in hospitals, care homes, hospices and residential addresses up to Friday, May 15.

There have been 20 confirmed deaths in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area from the deadly virus.

There has been a further 163 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the council area.
