
Three males to face Derry Magistrates’ Court over brutal attack on man in the city on Sunday
The three, aged 17, 34 and 38, will appear at Derry Magistrates’ Court today, Tuesday, May 5, charged with grievous bodily harm with intent for a first remand hearing.
As is normal procedure, the charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
Police said the victim, who is in his 30s, was attacked on Sunday afternoon in the lower part of Carlisle Road.
He sustained serious injuries to his body and head.
The man was first taken to Altnagelvin Hospital but was later whisked to the specialist head trauma unit at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.
Police said on Monday that the man was in a critical condition.
Detective Inspector Adrian Burns described the assault as a “brutal attack on a defenceless man”.
