Coronavirus: Derry MoT premises could be used as COVID-19 test centre

Derry’s MOT test centre at Newbuildings could become test centre for COVID-19

THE MoT test centre in Derry could be re-purposed as Coronavirus test centres.

It is part of a plan by the Stormont Executive to utilise as many premises as possible to help to test the public for the deadly virus.

A Covid-19 test centre on in Belfast will come into operation next week.

It is understood that health trusts across the North of Ireland are assessing suitability of other MoT centres.

The car lifts at the Belfast centre have been removed and been filled with gravel in preparation.

Last week, all MoT tests at the 15 government-owned vehicle test centres across the North of Ireland were cancelled after new Coronavirus restrictions were introduced.

The centres are expected to facilitate drive-through Coronavirus tests, so those being tested can remain in their vehicles.
