THE SDLP’s Mark H Durkan has welcomed confirmation from the Housing Executive (NIHE) that Ballymagroarty will benefit from a window replacement scheme scheduled 2020/2021.
The Housing Executive advised that they cannot confirm a start date just yet but will keep tenants updated.
The Foyle MLA commented:
“This will be welcome news for many Ballmagroarty NIHE tenants, as my constituency office had been inundated with queries and concerns about the poor conditions of existing windows in this area.
“The need for such a scheme has been glaringly apparent with many windows in these homes losing a great deal of heat and experiencing rot.
“This essential replacement scheme for the entire area of Ballymagroarty is a long time coming but I’m glad the Housing Executive have confirmed that it is coming.
“I have been advised that works will begin are planned for 2020/2021 and that tenants will be advised of further details once a start date has been agreed upon.
“Providing effective, quality windows is crucial for keeping homes warm and critical for areas like Ballymagroarty where levels of fuel-poverty are high.”
Mr Durkan added: “The confirmation of window replacement schemes for Creggan, Rosemount and now Ballymagroarty has been a long awaited one.
“I am pleased that the Housing Executive are taking this crucial step to improve their properties; ensuring that social housing is maintained to a good standard.”
