plastic-bags-275890098-1961463SDLP Social Justice Spokesperson and former Stormont Environment Minister Mark H Durkan has welcomed the allocation of £2.2 million from the carrier bag levy money for environmental projects.

Said the Foyle: “I am very proud to have been the Minister to introduce the plastic bag levy, which has raised almost £30m for environmental projects and removing 1.2 billion bags from circulation since 2012.

“It is only right that this money should be directed towards projects, which will improve environmental outcomes and play our role in tackling the climate crisis.”

“I welcome this announcement and I look forward to working with Minister Poots and colleagues right across the Assembly to put this money to good use and tackle the climate emergency.”
