Mother and two young children cheat injury in ‘reckless’ Derry arson attack

SDLP Councillor Brian Tierney has strongly condemned an incident in the Galliagh area of Derry, where a wheelie bin was set on fire outside the home of a woman with two young children.

Said the Ballyarnett Councillor: “I strongly condemn this attack which caused fear and anxiety for a woman with young children, who were no doubt frightened by this.

“This type of activity has been going on around this particular property for some time.

“I have been working with the resident and will continue to do so until this recklessness stops and she is allowed to live in peace.

“I have been working with community workers and a range of statutory agencies to ensure this dangerous, anti-social behaviour stops now.

“We have seen over recent weeks large numbers of young people gathering in the area.

“While youth workers have engaged with them and provided facilities for them to socialise in a safe and secure way, there is still more work to be done.”
