AFTER a reshuffle of the Assembly and council team, Councillor Brian Tierney has been appointed the SDLP’s Community Policing spokesperson.

Welcoming his new appointment, Cllr Tierney said: “I am excited to take on this new role and I thank our party leader, Colum Eastwood MP for his confidence in me.

“Community policing is an issue that is critical to people in Derry and across the North.

“There has been a rise in crime in my area of Ballyarnett and in communities across the North.

“Ten years of Tory austerity has depleted resources across our public services and policing is no exception.

“We must do more to ensure people feel safe in their homes and communities and that the level of crime decreases.

“I look forward to working across the North to support building public confidence in policing, as part of a meaningful engagement.

“Resources and personnel for community policing is an issue I have campaigned hard for since being elected to Derry and Strabane Council.

“I look forward to working closely with the SDLP’s Parliamentary team and colleagues across the North to press for urgent and meaningful action on this issue,” he added.
