Another great success for Sperrins and Killeter Walking Festival

THE weather was perfect on Saturday and Sunday as many pulled on the hiking boots and took in the scenery during the Far & Wild Sperrins and Killeter Walking Festival.

There was something for walkers of all ages and abilities who took their chance to get outside and explore the beauty, history and heritage of the Sperrins and Killeter regions.

Walks were available at a variety of levels, from the 3-4km Tullanshane River Trail route to the more challenging Sperrins walk on Saturday – which sold out in advance.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council Michaela Boyle said it was another great success.

“Not only was it a brilliant weekend of walking for everyone taking part, but they also got to experience the breath-taking scenery and history that our region has to offer,” she said.

“It was great to see people of all ages getting out and taking part in the various different walks that were on offer.

“From the Famous Local Characters Walk to the Power Behind Thrones trek to the Derg Dynasties, there was something for everyone.

“Such a great success wouldn’t have been possible without the contribution of so many local volunteers, who worked with the organisers to pull off another superb event.”
