SINN Féin’s Karen Mullan has called for a rigorous investigation into allegations that the Education Authority mismanaged files belonging to children with special educational needs.

The Foyle MLA was commenting after a whistleblower made the claims in the media.

The party’s Education Spokesperson said:

“These allegations are truly shocking and must be rigorously investigated by the Education Authority.

“At the heart of this is children with special educational needs who are among the most vulnerable in our society.

“Our constituency offices are inundated with these cases and we have been working with support groups to help children and families who are rightly frustrated.

“I will be seeking an urgent meeting with the Education Authority to ensure our children receive the education and care which they are entitled to.”
