SDLP Councillor Shauna Cusack is calling on Council through the Mayor to work in partnership with herself and the Inner City Trust to facilitate a Factory Girls reunion.

Said Cllr Cusack: “I have been so heartened to see the progress that has finally been made in paying tribute to our Factory Girls and our manufacturing heritage through the incredible Craft Village murals.

“The atmosphere at the launch by Inner City Trust on Thursday was fantastic and there was so much camaraderie and craic by the attendees.

“It was a pleasure to meet and chat to many woman and hear them reminisce with their past colleagues and friends stories and experiences we should all enjoy.

“I’m convinced that we now have a great opportunity to build on the enthusiasm and interest reawakened by the murals to further honour our factory girls history and our City and District’s shared heritage by subsequent projects.

“I believe the natural first step is to organise an official reunion event to reignite friendships and memories.

“I have already written to the Mayor to moot the idea and discussed with the Inner City Trust as to how we can work together to make this a reality in the near future.

“I believe that great things happen when talk becomes action and this is just the start of more tributes and celebrations which are long overdue,’’ she added.
