McCallion welcomes continued US support for Good Friday Agreement

Sinn Fein Foyle MP Elisha McCallion

SINN Féin’s Elisha McCallion has welcomed the continued support of influential US politicians for the Good Friday Agreement.

The Foyle MP said: “I welcome the latest expression of US support for the Good Friday Agreement with US Senator Charles E Schumer writing to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo once again supporting the Agreement in the face of threats from Brexit.

“This comes after the Speaker of the US Nancy Pelosi reiterated her support for the Good Friday Agreement and said the US would not be agreeing a trade deal with Britain if the agreement is undermined.

“It is clear that key figures in American politics and the EU are in full support of the Good Friday Agreement while the British government, who have a legal responsibility to uphold that agreement, are in breach of it.

“We now need to see the British government living up to its responsibilities to the Good Friday Agreement instead of undermining it with its reckless Brexit policy.”
