Durkan welcomes laneway clean up at Richmond Crescent

THE SDLP’s Mark H Durkan has welcomed a clean-up of the laneway behind Richmond Crescent adding that he is pleased this ongoing issue has now reached a positive resolution.

Said the Foyle MLA: “I am pleased that a thorough cleanse and maintenance of the laneway behind Richmond Crescent has been carried out.

“After receiving numerous complaints from residents in the surrounding areas, I liaised with a number of agencies to have this work completed urgently.

“The area is somewhat notoriously a local ‘no man’s land’ and as such with no agency taking ownership, it had fallen into a poor state with pedestrians and particularly those using prams, having difficulty traversing the pathway.

“Following a long period of neglect, the overgrowth of shrubbery and accumulation of rubbish had been attracting vermin, forcing residents to take alternative routes.

“I am glad that after a lengthy process, the area has had such an overhaul thanks to the efforts of Teamworks.

“Now the laneway is looking a lot fresher, residents and other pedestrians can once again make use of this convenient short-cut,” he added.
