A priest born and reared in Derry has just celebrated his 70th birthday.

Fr Michael Doherty is parish priest at Melmount in Strabane.

But the PP is originally from Derry’s Bishop Street and according to friends he is an avid Derry City FC fan.

Wishing him a happy birthday has been SDLP MLA Daniel McCrossan.

He posted on FacebooK:

“The main man about Melmount, our most trusted advisor and our dearest Friend is celebrating his 70th Birthday.

“He’s had a huge influence and been a big part of so many of our lives throughout Strabane and our community.

“A living legend, a true gentleman and always there when and if we need him.

“Join me in wishing Fr. Michael Doherty a very happy 70th Birthday.

“Happy Birthday Padre! Have a great week.
