Emergency services pull man to safey from River Foyle

Constable JB a tad muddy after helping to rescue a man from the River Foyle today

A MAN in distress was plucked to safety this afternoon after he was spotted by police entering the River Foyle.

He is now recovering in Altnagelvin Hospital following the quick actions of police on bicyle patrol along with assistance from Foyle Search and Rescue and the Fire Service.

PSNI Foyle say on its Facebook page: “This is Constable JB (above), one of our City Centre Cycle NPT officers.

“He responded to reports of a distressed male along the river, and after the male entered the water, assisted Foyle Search and Rescue, along with colleagues in another NPT and local LPT5 in the mud flats in removing the male to safety.

“The male is safe and recovering in hospital.

“Fire Service and Northern Ireland Ambulance Service were also in attendance and were of great assistance.

“Constable JB is a tad muddy now.”
