AS part of its drive to increase recycling rates, Derry City and Strabane District Council will be rolling out a garden waste recycling pilot scheme over the coming weeks to selected households in the Derry City area.

Householders will be receiving brown wheelie bins and information about what materials can be recycled.

Collections will take place every fortnight on the same day as normal black/blue bin collections (depending on area).

For areas where garden waste collections coincide with a blue bin week, first collections will take place on the week commencing 15th July 2019.

For areas where garden waste collections coincide with a black bin week, first collections will take place on either the week commencing 22nd July or 5th August 2019 (subject to delivery schedule).

Council recycling inspectors will be doing follow-up door-to-door engagement with all households involved in this pilot scheme giving advice and support to residents.

Please note that this is a pilot scheme and households have been selected on factors including route optimisation, location and garden size.

What goes in your garden waste recycling bin?

Grass, leaves, flowers, cold ashes, weeds, dead plants, twigs and small branches.
