SDLP Councillor Brian Tierney says police are currently dealing with “what seems to be a very serious incident” in Galliagh this morning.

It follows a one vehicle collision in Fairview Road area.

“Most of the area is cordoned off,” says Cllr Tierney.

“It’s unclear yet as to how long this will take but I’ve been assured that the large cordon is essential at this early stage.

“If you need out for work etc the best way is along the black-pads and head towards Rossnagalliagh.”

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police are currently at the scene of a one vehicle road traffic collision on the Fairview Road area of Derry this morning.

“The road is closed at Galliagh Park and Knockalla Park to the Moss Road roundabout. Diversions are in place.

“Motorists are advised to avoid the area.”

No further details regarding the incident have been released.
