SINN Féin’S Elisha McCallion has welcomed news that Derry has once again been awarded purple flag status for its safe city centre.

The Foyle MP said: “The fact that Derry has once again been awarded purple flag status is great news for the city.

“This is the ninth year the city has been awarded this accolade and is testament to the hard work carried out by so many in this city to make our city centre safe.

“This is yet another welcome boost for our city’s night-time economy.

“It will help attract more visitors and locals alike into our city centre and assist the growth of our local economy.”
