A NEW air link between Derry and Manchester has celebrated its inaugural departure.

The first aircraft left City of Derry Airport on Friday, May 24, at 11.15 am and touched down in Manchester at 12.25 pm.

Loganair will operate flights between the two cities six days a week, covering weekdays and weekends, operated by the airline’s fleet of Embraer 145 regional jets, and with flight-times of just 70 minutes.

The route will give customers from Northern Ireland the opportunity to travel to Britain’s second largest city, famed for its nightlife, music scene and sporting heritage.

Customers arriving in Manchester will have access to worldwide flights thanks to Loganair’s network of international partner airlines including KLM and Emirates.

And they are also eligible to join the airline’s attractive loyalty programme, Clan Loganair, which rewards frequent customers with points for each journey which can then be exchanged for free-of-charge flights.

Loganair has a long history of service at City of Derry Airport, and was the first airline to fly commercial services from the airport in April 1979.

The airline now provides services between Derry and Glasgow five days per week, as well as daily flights to London Stansted.

Jonathan Hinkles, Loganair’s Managing Director said: “These new air services offer a fantastic gateway for our customers in Northern Ireland to reach the world, customers flying via Manchester can expect excellent connections with our interline partners; KLM & Emirates.

“We’re pleased to be able to expand our presence at City of Derry Airport, now serving 3 direct routes, all eligible for our frequent flyer programme; Clan Loganair.”

Lead-in fares between Manchester and Derry begin at £39.99.

All reservations include 20kg of complimentary hold luggage and in-flight refreshment as standard. Loganair also offers a 33% discount for children up to the age of 11.

Tickets can be booked online at www.loganair.co.uk or by calling 0344 800 2855.
