A MAN who failed to stop for police in Derry to evade arrest has been charged with dangerous driving and possessing class A drugs with intent to supply.

He was arrested by PSNI officers from Strand Road District Support Team after they spotted him driving dangerously on the Springtown Road.

After eventually being caught with the aid of a stinger device, DST officers later searched his home and found a quantity of Class A drugs.

PSNI Foyle say on its Facebook page: “Often this job is more dull paperwork than Hollywood Action 🎥 but it was full-on #StarskyAndHutch on Sunday:

“Our District Support Team (#DST) saw this car Driving Dangerously on Springtown Road.

“You wouldn’t believe how it escalated from there.

“The car drove into Sheriffs Glen and when it came out DST were waiting with a check point.

2The car Failed to Stop and sped off straight over a waiting Stinger 💥 that was thrown across the road.

“With three tyres rapidly going flat the vehicle sped away.

“DST simply followed the 3.5 mile trail of damage on the road as the car tried to drive on its rims.

“The Stinger damage proved fatal for the Toyota which was abandoned on the Creevagh Road.

“The occupants decided to try to run for freedom through muddy fields.

“Unfortunately if there’s one thing Peelers love it’s a chase, and so they were quickly caught.

“Things got worse for the Driver who had drugs on him and then got his house searched 🏠 where we found MORE drugs.

“He ended up being Charged with Dangerous Driving/ No Insurance/ Failing To Stop/ Possession of Class A/ Possession Class B/ Supplying Class A.

“The Passenger has been bailed to return.

“It all started with a fella acting like an idiot and showing off to his friends.

“Unfortunately for him he bumped into Strand Road DST.”
